I've probably owned or had as company cars about 45 vehicles in 50 years of driving, only my Miata and my Karmann Ghia were as fun to drive as my Spark EV. It is about 3,000 curb weight, so of course it feels a lot heavier than the sports cars I named, but holy cow is it fast.

The other day at a traffic light I pulled up next to a motorcycle, when the light changed we both nailed it and I kept up neck and neck with him until I bailed at the speed limit. The initial acceleration in this car is so phenomenal I just can't stop playing Speed Racer.

Plus I love how all you hear is other cars.

The long answer is that I looked on several other car forum, and I do not see anyone who has managed to defeat the new system. On older chevys it was possible, but I don't see any options yet.

I have a special EV electric meter with a grandfathered-in special EV rate from PG&E (central Calif), so it costs me less than two cents a mile to drive! I just don't drive far enough to save that much.

It really is like a rocket at the green light! :D

My two biggest complaints:
The cheap-sounding horn.
Dome light: It shines right in your eyes at night so it's hard to drive when the passenger turns it on.

I used my Suburban and rented a U-Haul trailer to haul it over 200 miles from So. Cal. where a dealer had the right color and features that I wanted, at the lowest price. Dealer would have shipped it to my house for about $350. I used Cars.com to find this one.

One more thing: The rebates! Fed. tax rebate is $7,500 (only if you pay that much in fed taxes), CA rebate is $2,500. Then there is a SJVAPCD (central Cal) rebate of $3,000. Those bring the price within several grand of the gasoline model.

I'm getting about 4.4 miles per KWh, I think that's good. It is much better at capturing energy by regeneration than my Prius was. When driving downhill at moderate speeds I sometimes see it regenerating A 14KW for a second or two. By shifting into what would be low if the transmission had more than one speed what you are really doing is telling the electronics to be more aggressive with the regeneration, it can slow the car nearly to a full stop.

I ended up putting two 6 by 9 speakers in small wooden boxes in the way back so I could hear some bass. A 4 by 6 speaker is what I call a tweeter.

My cousin is an engineer for GM he said the thing is really fast. I don't think I'll have a chance to see one any time soon, but I'm interested to see what others think of them.

It accelerates in an amazingly quiet fashion, I like to drive with the windows open so I can not hear the engine that is not there. In parking lots I turn up the (pathetic) radio so pedestrians have a chance to hear something coming.

My longest trip so far was 69 miles, at the end it was estimating I could go 22 miles further.

I'd love to improve the radio, as in louder and maybe some bass, I assume the speaker placement and size in the EV are like the gas engine Spark.

That thing is really quick. Probably on par with a 2.0L turbo..at least up to 60 mph. 400 lb-ft of torque will do that. That's not much less than my Shelby Cobra replica! Sadly, this will only be available in CA and OR this year.
